PC, Apple Mac, iPad, & iPhone Bible software Expeditions Pioneer Program is an innovative virtual field trip program from Google that I found about from Larry Ferlazzo's excellent blog. The way this works is a teacher/school signs up and then teams from around the world will come visit them using expedition kits. These kits are the 3D cardboard glasses from Google. Right now, they are visiting schools in the US, UK, Australia, and Brazil. Expeditions are guided virtual reality tours/field trips that student's couldn't normally visit. The 3D cardboard glasses turn it into a 3D experience for students and is a great way to use mobile devices in the classroom.
EDpuzzle the excellent and free learning tool for flipping a classroom and adding questions to a video has just released a new update. This update has a new landing page making it easier for students/teachers to sign in, as well as a drag-n-drop interface to add questions to a video. It allows educators to track and monitor student assignments as well generate detailed reports.
Student Sites for Exploration and Application of Learning EverySlide is a fantastic new presentation tool for educators to create or upload a presentation (i.e. Keynote, PPT) then share it w/ others via a unique access code. Being browser-based this works on any mobile device and best of all an educator can assess an audience/students level of learning by embedding a poll that they can take. Results of the poll are then displayed in a spreadsheet, which makes it easy for an educator to differentiate instruction. Everyslide - your old slides made interactive from KPicture Inc. on Vimeo.
EDpuzzle is becoming one of the premiere web/iOS tools around for learning in the classroom. This is a fantastic free tool for editing a video, cropping, adding quizzes/polls, narration, etc. then embedding into site/blog. It is being used to flip a classroom or lesson, Project Based Learning, grading/assessing, and even for differentiating instruction. The educational portal allows students to sign-up w/out needing an email account and lets educators track student progress in real-time. Download 1000's of Free eBooks, Get Reviews & More! Get App E-Readers, E-Reading FREE! ExamTime is a site covered a long time ago but thankfully reminded about from one of their emails. This is an excellent learning tool for educators or students looking to create and share resources such as: flashcards, quizzes, mind maps, and more. Also, a user can generate detailed reports to gauge their learning progress. Finally, ExamTime is browser based making it ideal to use on any mobile device.
Learn flashcards online. Create cards on your own or cooperatively, and prepare for tests systematically.
Edueto is a great new site for educators to create homework online and then grade it once students have completed it. This is done from a easy to use interface and allows teachers to add text, images, videos and more. After the students complete the assignment teachers can then grade them in a fast organized manner. Also, educators can find other assignments already created on Edueto and customize them to meet their own needs. Edventure Builder is an innovative new site that is perfect for sparking student's creativity by providing a online platform for creating: scavenger hunts, interactive stories, or choose your own adventures. This is a fantastic tool that educators can use to build mobile lessons, interactive tours (think Back to School night or outside activities), and more. The way this works is quite simple, from a browser a user can create an adventure (i.e., lesson, hunt, tour, etc) by adding text, images, video, and links. Then by clicking a button it gets published to any browser based mobile device. Best of all are the different features that allows a user to fully customize their adventures and edit, save, and publish them easily. [Written by dkapuler ] to create a collection Every collection on EdShelf has an accompanying widget. Larry Ferlazzo's Response: To Help ELLs, We Need to Understand 'How Language Learning Works' (March 18, 2014 3:06 PM). EDpuzzle is a favorite site for Flipping a Classroom. This is done by taking any digital video and "making" it your own by cropping and adding questions into the video itself. This is great for assessing learning and for students to take their learning home. Finally, Edpuzzle recently updated their innovative site by allowing users to embed an image into a video as well to further create dynamic lessons. Also, a user can now use scientific notation in their text. Kapuler's Pinterest board on a Flipped Classroom E-Card Programs: Cardkarma is a neat eCard site for many occasions. Without registering, you can search Flickr for any photo and turn it into an eCard you can send and post. I Wish You To lets you easily draw and create your own E-cards, which you can post, embed, and/or send to someone Ñ no registration. Tocomail is an excellent site/iOS app for providing a safe email environment for children. The way this works is a child gets a free email account w/ safe/approved contacts from a guardian. Kids can then customize an avatar for their email account and even create drawings/paintings for email attachments. Parents can setup and approve a contact lists, receive quarantined emails waiting for approval, reject or approval any email, etc. Best of all, there is a content filter which quarantines the email it has any profanity and parents will be alerted if any bullying patterns are detected. Edynco is a wonderful new site for creating Learning Maps. This site reminds me of Prezi in that it allows educators to create a multimedia presentation that is "zoomable". These Learning Maps can contains all types of media (i.e. audio, video, images) and are ideal for "flipping" a classroom or Guided Learning. Best of all, a finished Map can be shared via a URL or embedded into a site/blog. [Written by dkapuler on Jan 14, 2014 ].
Free tools you should use! A collection of free apps and websites curated by ESL/EFL teacher Cynthia Jones. OpenEd is a fantastic site/catalog for finding educational resources such as educational games, links, and videos. What makes OpenEd so great is that a user can search for resources by Common Standard or by keyword. Also, each resource is rated on a 5 star scale. [Written by dkapuler on Dec 11, 2013]. DimensionU games help students practice and develop math and literacy skills in an action-packed, multiplayer video game environment.
Edpuzzle is one of my favorite sites for "flipping" a classroom. This educational tool allows educators to edit/crop a video and record their own audio to guide a lesson. This is ideal for wanting to point out specific points a video, ask a question, etc. Best of all, a teacher can embed quizzes into their video, which makes it perfect for the Flipped Classroom approach.

"Tablets just distract students, Dedicated E-Book Readers are much better!" The e-book idea - will it kill reading or enhance it? EduClipper Has Potential To Be An "All In One" Tool For Teachers & Students: "Clip Anything, then Share Everything! I use Pinterest daily. However, in the vast majority of schools, it is never going to make it past Internet content filters for students. eduClipper is basically a Pinterest for schools (and I confirmed today that it is not blocked at our school Ñ if it's not blocked by our district, it's unlikely to be blocked by most others). It has the potential of sort of being an "all in one" tool for the classroom, serving the same purpose as sites on The Best Social Bookmarking Applications For English Language Learners & Other Students list and on The Best Online Virtual "Corkboards" (or "Bulletin Boards") list, as well as serving other functions. The advantage of that kind of versatility is that students only have to learn one site. The potential drawback is that sometimes this kind of versatility results in a site being overly-complex. EasyDefine is a site I just found out about from the amazing educator/presenter/app designer, Ozge Karaoglu. This is a terrific site for uploading a list of words to get their definition. However, what makes EasyDefine so great are various formats in where you can get your results such as: definitions, synonyms, flash cards, and quizzes. All which are ideal for learning your words. For another great site for learning Vocabulary check out SpellingCity.com.
E-Maze is a new (beta) site for creating stunning presentations. This appears to be a cross between Prezi and PP as it allows users to interact w/ presentation and move around. As w/ most sites a user can add: text, images, audio, links, etc into their presentation. Best of all a finished presentation can then be embedded into a site/blog. Energy for Life is a wonderful new iPad app by the creators of Miracle of Life and Experience Life. This beautifully designed interactive app takes students through the different systems of the body: digestive, respiratory, and circulatory. What I like about these series of apps from iDiCreative are the easy to understand explanations and interactive animations that engage students and allow them to learn in a fun way (Energy for Life does this by interacting w/ dinosaurs). This is a fantastic app for MS/HS students as well as Health/Biology/Science teachers. [Written by dkapuler on May 17, 2013].
We've just begun to study Europe in my ESL Geography class, and I'm adding these videos to The Best Geography Sites For Learning About Europe.
Zeen is a new (beta) site for creating a digital story. It's a rather interesting site that is very easy to use. A user just creates a board, adds text/quotes, drag-n-drops photos/videos, and then shares their story. My only issue is the site claims to allow stories to be embedded which is ideal for education but I couldn't figure it out. [Written by dkapuler on Feb 02, 2013]. EDUCAUSE is a nonprofit association whose mission is to advance higher education by promoting the intelligent use of information technology. A new breed of tools is emerging that allow faster and easier creation of infographics, enabling users without deep skills in graphic design or the software that supports it. These tools provide templates, examples, and drag-and-drop functionality that allow creators to focus their efforts on the concept rather than also having to worry about creating the graphic. The nature of these tools encourages fast prototyping, allowing students to create, assess, and revise many versions of a graphic in a short amount of time. These tools also offer the opportunity to expand visual learning and thinking into fields where visual aspects of communication are not always included.
